Cicadas. Fully intact (although dead) cicadas, abandoned cicada "husks" [AKA exoskeletons; thanks to an alert reader] and cicada tunnels.

These are from The Great 2004 Cicada "Infestation." I didn't think of it as an infestation, with all those negative implications. I was thrilled to have them swarming all over the place, making racket and littering the sidewalks with their "husks." (Note to Pam: find out what the correct word is for "husk.") And here's a question: is it a Tchotchke if it stays in a drawer? Shouldn't a true tchotchke be on display?

For other C entries check out Chesapeake Lady and Nyack Lady.

A final word: I will try to be more original in the future, but when God Bless Y'all posted her Bugs for the B challenge I knew at that moment that I had to share my Cicadas.

Wow! I'm so impressed that these have lasted "loose" so long! Is this the bug that's only around every seven years?

(I think I missed the point which was to highlight a single "C" item - not a group of them!)

Those are snacks to the cats.

WOW! That's quite a collection. You have the whole shebang, too, not just one measly carcass.

Regarding what is a tchotchke, my entries are gonna be stuff that I've collected or held on to over the years that has some sentimental or aesthetic value for me. In other words, just my stuff. Some of it will have to be retrieved from boxes where it's stored, other stuff will come from the out-on-the-shelf collection.

Really, I think it's fair and desirable to include almost anything that would give a glimpse of your personality to your readers--photos, textiles, hobbies, even music.

JGH: you didn't miss the point & I agree with all of Anne's excellent thoughts, especially her broadening of the term tchotchke to include photos and music and hobbies. And we didn't say how many, or how many categories either. I'm trying to resist the urge to post some more entries today (my motley collection of Candles for example, or my kids' Ceramics..... )

Cyra: Because I love my kitties so much I'm going to give them one corpse as a snack. Here's my bet: they will use it as a hockey puck.

Eeek! Interesting, but *shudder*. It's funny how bees don't bug me at all (harhar), but cicadas just creep me out.
